Survey of the different types of pesticides, their uses, properties, and effects on the environment. Discusses the risks, benefits, regulation, politics, and current controversies associated with pesticide use and genetically modified crops.

  • 1.1 You will understand what steps occur after an organism is exposed to a pesticide. 1.2 You will be able to compare and contrast chronic versus acute poisoning.
  • 2.1 You will learn how pesticides move between trophic levels. 2.2 You will learn the trade-offs between high intensity and low intensity agriculture.
  • 3.1 You will learn the major benefits associated with pesticide use. 3.2 You w ill learn the problems associated with pesticide use. 3.3 You will learn the similarities and differences between conventional pesticides and GMOs. 3.4 You will learn how the media covers pesticides. 3.5 You will understand what alternatives exist to pesticide use.
  • 4.1 You will learn what the major types of pesticides are and what they are used for. 4.2 You will learn what the major classes of pesticides are and what they are used for.
  • 5.1 You will learn the effects of pesticides on cancer and reproduction.
