This course examines the direct and indirect influence of public policies designed to reduce poverty on child well-being. We first review major theories of child development and then draw on this research to analyze current federal, state, and local programs and policies.

  • Identify major debates over the provision of anti-poverty policy to promote child well-being.
  • 2.Evaluate these debates using interdisciplinary perspectives from economics and sociology.
  • Assess the quality of empirical research on the effectiveness of social safety net policies for child well-being
