Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2014-2015.
An elementary, self-contained introduction to the theory of Western tonal music. Fundamental musical techniques, theoretical concepts, and their application. Intervals, scales, triads; basic concepts of tonality and form; analysis of representative works. Coverage primarily of "classical" (concert) music, but with considerable attention to popular music and jazz as well.
When Offered Fall.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Recommended prerequisite: experience in reading music.
Forbidden Overlaps Students may take MUSIC 1100 concurrently.
