HORT 4400
Restoration Ecology

Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2014-2015.

Draws concepts from ecology, hydrology, soil science, and conservation biology and applies these in both principle and practice to the rapidly evolving field of restoration ecology. Through lectures, reading, and discussion, site visits to active restoration sites, and a real-world class project, students learn and practice skills needed to develop restoration plans for a variety of situations.

Permission Note Enrollment limited to: upper-division undergraduate or graduate standing; or permission of instructor.

Comments Lecture, laboratory, plus several weekends.

Outcomes
  • Students will become conversant in a wide variety of issues and approaches to restoration and be able make substantive contributions in interdisciplinary team settings.
  • Students will gain experience with field and lab techniques useful in restoration projects.
  • Students will be able to confront novel restoration problems with confidence.
