Course Description

The purpose of this course is to examine (a) how individuals construct and maintain their sense of themselves racially and ethnically, and (b) personal- and societal-level consequences of such identities. This course includes a review of essential theories pertaining to race and ethnicity in the United States, methodological strategies for studying identity development, and practical applications related to understanding how racial and ethnic identities play a meaningful role in the human experience.
When Offered Fall.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: HD 1150 or HD 1170. Recommended Prerequisite: PSYCH 1101.
