An in-depth study of a book, author, or debate in ancient political thought in its own right and also with a view to its bearing on contemporary democratic theory. In fall 2014, this course will focus on Plato's Republic, in conversation with a diverse set of modern and contemporary theorists from Carl Schmitt to Jacques Derrida.
