Course Description
Course information provided by the Courses of Study 2014-2015.
Introduction to the properties of microwave devices and their applications in circuits, waveguides, resonators, and antennas. The course covers the considerations that must be appreciated when the operating frequency approaches or exceeds 1GHz. Topics include microwave devices, microwave measurement techniques, S-parameters, signal flow diagrams, matching networks, basic circuit design considerations, and computer-aided device and circuit analysis. The course emphasizes physical understanding and intuitive design methods. Labs cover basic measurement techniques for active and passive elements as well as low noise amplifier design.
When Offered Fall.
Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: ECE 3030 and ECE 3150.
Outcomes
- Obtain a basic understanding of microwave concepts.
- Be able to connect the system requirements and component characteristics.
- Learn to break a large system to smaller manageable sub-systems that can be analyzed and then apply the analysis of the smaller blocks to understand the whole system.
- Understand the challenges of basic circuit design at high frequency in a conventional CMOS process.
- Being able to evaluate the new designs.
Regular Academic Session. Choose one lecture and one laboratory.
