This course examines major historical trends in human health and mortality, family formation, and migration.  It explores the relationships between these processes and the social, economic, and cultural changes being experienced by diverse societies prior to, during, and following the onset of the demographic shifts.  It considers public policy initiatives aimed at managing population size and distribution.  Case studies from selected historical periods and geographic locations are presented.
